Project Support

NesjavellirThe international GEOthermal Research Group (GEORG) is founded with the aim of enhancing research of geothermal resources and their sustainable development, which can play a significant role in reducing the world dependence on carbon-based energy sources. Its goal is to create a critical mass of joint resources and efforts to break through existing scientific and technical barriers to innovation in the field, and increase significantly the number of qualified experts in geothermal research, engineering, design and technical exploitation of the resource.

GEORG plans to achieve its ambitious objectives by increasing substantially research, education and distribution of knowledge in the field of geothermal energy resources and their sustainable utilization, and to create an innovative way for education organizations, research institutions, companies and other stakeholders to work together.

GEORG will publish annually a Call for Proposal. The first call was published April 27th 2009 and the second on the 15th of October 2009.  The submission deadline for proposals is a minimum of one month after the publication date of a Call.  The deadline date is specified in the Call.

Calls for Proposals will generally be structured around one or several Work Packages (WPs), representing fields of interest. WPs 2-8 are eligible for grant funding under these calls.

Except where a Call establishes more restrictive eligibility criteria, all participants of GEORG are eligible to apply. GEORG encourages proposals for cooperative projects involving GEORG and other organizations, provided support is requested only for the GEORG member portion of the collaborative effort.
